and the peas are in!!!!!!!
last thursday, the peas finally went in the ground. after soaking in a bowl of water for 24 hours to get the germination process started, i planted two rows of green arrow peas from seed savers exchange, and two rows of pea shelling progress #9 from botanical interests. the green arrow are climbing peas so in between the rows i set out some small tree branches, i gathered from the neighborhood, to give them something to climb up. the progress #9 are a dwarf vines and, according to the package, require no staking. we'll see about that. and after all that hard, hard, oh so hard work, of course this morning the peas look like this.......
but you know, me and the peas have been through this before. and with the weather forecast calling for a high of 77 degrees on thursday, i think we'll be just fine. hopefully.
(garden note to self: peas direct sown into garden on 3/10. 2 rows of green arrow with branch trellis in between the rows, and two rows of pea shelling #9 progress planted without support.)
