i love being a dork

i'm a dork. i know this. i have always been a dork no matter how cool i thought i was at the time. i will always be a dork. but that is OK! it doesn't take much to make me laugh (i really think ray is the funniest thing out there - dork humor!), the simplest, and sometimes stupidest, things entertain me, and it really doesn't take much to get me excited.

that being said......the coolest thing happen today!!!!

someone i did not know or was related to POSTED A COMMENT ON MY BLOG!!!! YEAH!!!!
here's what they wrote...... Hi Trish! Your granola bars look delicious... do you have the recipe posted somewhere? (Sorry if I missed the obvious -- no coffee yet this morning.)

isn't it fabulous. i was at work when i discovered it. i called ray immediately. i was talking so fast and had to get off phone cause the other line was ringing (damn those clients) ray thought i said that a guy posted a comment about a date on my facebook page. where he got that i don't know.

anyway, it made my day. so thank you thank you thank you. and thanks to anyone who has commented either on my blog or facebook page. keep them coming guys. and i will do my best to return the favor.

here is my response to the recipe question. i will try to post more recipes from now on since this is my SECOND request (the other was on facebook) for recipes.

i replied ....first of all, i really like you blog and your illustrations. i happened upon them the other day, linked in from some another blog i was reading. i look forward to looking at your earlier posts and checking your blog out even further. i'm new to this whole blog thing, but so far it has been really fun.

i didn't post a recipe for a few reasons. i really didn't think anyone would really read my post (so happy to see that someone did!!! yeah!!!) and because i really didn't follow one. for most everything, other than baking, i'm never really able to stick to a recipe. a lot of stuff i just kinda throw together, go from memory, or loosely follow a recipe. for my granola, i just wing it. i did try something different this time. in the granola glue i added chopped up fresh figs, and that really added another dimension to it. more so, i think, than if i just chopped them up and added them to the dry ingredients. but here is a bit of a recipe.

in pan cook
1/2 - 1 cup fresh chopped up figs 1/2 cup honey
1 tablespoon butter
1/4 - 1/3 cup brown sugar
bit of salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
cook till boiling and figs break down a bit.

mix dry ingredients
2 cups rolled oats
2 cups puffed brown rice
1/2 cups shredded unsweetened coconut
1/2 cup unsweetened dried cranberries

mix the glue with dry

this last time i forget to add some wheat germ. i would normally put in about 1/4 - 1/2 cup. also i tried to just pat it down in the dish, let it cool, and hopefully harden. it didn't. i tried to cut it into bars, but it was still gooey and fell apart.

no problem - i just crumbled it all up on a baking sheet and baked it at 375 for about 15 minute... tossing it around every five minutes.

now instead of bars, i have cereal.

taste just as good as the bars, but harder to eat as a snack at work, so now it is breakfast.

in other news...since i am still suffering the effects from the meat-a-thon (don't worry i wont elaborate) all i could get down for diner was half a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. not very interesting or glamorous i know, BUT i did make the blackberry jam myself from wild blackberries that i picked at Dr. H's house. you can't get more local and organic than that folks.

yummy PB&J. one of ray's favorite weeknight dinner. the other being ice cream dinner.

now i must go and start my poolish for bread making tomorrow. i have a whole day off from work and i have lots little fun things planned. the first is waking up at 5:30 am to go walking/jogging with the new receptionist Valerie. ok, that is not fun, but i need to start exercising again. the pudge is getting out of control.

for now i will leave you with another artsy fartsy picture.
