more bread and more scanning

well another day off, another loaf of bread. well two loaves actually. i tried a few things different this time. first a different recipe, but now i can't find the one i used. oops. also some new yeast...red star (not organic) but i didn't see a bunch of chemicals listed in the ingredients, so i thought i would give it a try. and i used the filtered water from the frig instead of tap water. i saw something on "good eats" last night about the chlorine in the tap water will kill the yeast. i didn't start with a poolish this time, so from start to finish it really didn't take that long. i got a pretty good rise in the dough, but i never get this huge quick explosion of a rise when i put the bread in the oven like i've read a few folks write about. i really don't like my oven that much, and i am afraid to crank it up over 450 degrees. maybe it's not hot enough. maybe one day i can have an outside wood burning bread oven. one can only dream.

my slashes in the bread really don't accomplish much, but they smell really good.
if i keep this bread making thing up, i will venture out and get more gadgets and perhaps a baking stone and mail order some groovy yeasts and flours. or who knows, maybe i'll just keep it simple. perhaps harvest my own yeast, or better yet, a sourdough starter!!!

a day off and at home means a day of freedom for the pups. here they are enjoying the big dog couch which is really starting to have seen better days.

mail. i like mail. my film that i order and an archival box to store away some super pic books.

the books that are going into the box.
2 signed copies of william eggleston and a 1st edition walker evans.

i also spent sometime in the office toady organizing some old negative into the binders that i recently ordered.

well i was hoping to have some super pics of a really super supper. but...no. by the time the bread was done and ray got home, i was just to tired to do any more work in the kitchen. i was thinking we would feast on grilled cheese sandwiches and some tomato soup we got from the farmers market. but ray didn't feel all that well (he really really needs a vacation) and i was feeling lazy, so we had pb&j sandwiches on the new bread. ray had hot tea to drink and i had a glass of raw milk. but i did feel like doing some more scanning. i really need to watch the tom foolery with all the color correction tools. here's what i was playing with. now i must go because i am getting tired of staring at the computer and the debates will be starting soon.

very old picture. i think this was taken around 1995.

what is up with the funky color? another old pic of mine.

i could totally hang out on this porch.

newer image. i took this last year i think.

took this one day when ray and i were driving around.

i don't think i this one very much. i need to go back and try again.

We watched that Good Eats! I don't know about the water, but did you try the flower pot trick? That has to be a good thing.

I'm making Irish Soda bread for dinner - from the Cooks Illustrated cookbook. It's the only bread I'm not scared to try. Let me know when you do sourdough started. We can do it at the same time and see if our wild yeasts are the same. : )
