pepper plan #2

new little tea spoon for my baby.

folks i have a new pepper plan!!!! as of today i still only have 4 pepper seeds that decided to germinate. so some changes definitely needed to be made in my approach to the peppers. first off, i soaked the seeds in some water for about 24 hours. getting that initial soaking is supposed to help jump start the whole cellular metabolism breaking and swelling of the seed coat food reserve blah blah blah....... let's just say it helps. also if i had paid attention to the garden books and, well, the back of the damn seed packet, i would have realized that those suckers need something like 80 degrees to germinate. oops, my house is set on 70. ok, gotta find a warm spot. now some people put their seedling trays on top the frig, but i checked on top of mine and it seemed kind cool up there. ok, maybe over by the window with the other seeds. nope not good either. it's still cold here at night. might be a little drafty, so i don't think that’s good. i could put my seedlings on a warming matt, a.k.a heating pad, but i don't like to leave things plugged in while I’m not home. especially not something electrical next to something that is supposed to get wet. i mean, my god i would be freaked out about a house fire while i'm gone all day. (remind me to tell you about my house fire fears and slight OCD issues when leaving the house for the day. they're even better when i leave the house for a vacation). anyway, where were we? oh yes, warm spot... warm spot....warm spot. holy crap i got it!!!!!. duh, the laundry room. see my little laundry room sits smack dab right in the middle of the house. no windows, no draft, no outside walls. also after running the dryer for a little bit, it's gets down right toasty in there. warm spot!!!!! so to recap two changes have been made in the first pepper plan. (1) soak the seeds for 24 hours. (2) set them in a warm spot to germinate.

here they are hanging out in the laundry room.

now i bet you are wondering what the picture of the tea spoon at the beginning of this post has to do with peppers. i'll tell you...nothing. i just wanted to mention a few fun things i found this weekend out and about with my ray. first off, i got a new cook book. i bought it with a gift card sent to me from ray's parents for my birthday (which is this sunday. 38 years, oh my!). i also got a new and super cute coin purse from a little store in downtown greer, a painting from a little gallery in west greenville, and i found that little tea strainer/spoon at an antique store on the way home. we haven't brought the painting home yet so i don't have a picture of that one, but check out the gallery's (art and light) web page. the place is awesome. every time we go in there we come home with something.

 isn't she pretty.
