potato soup and a tomato/garden update

homemade potato soup.
yummy.

how do you like my soup? i had some, just about to really go bad, potatoes and onions in the frig, so potato soup it was for dinner the other night. it wasn't a super quick soup, but not as complicated as the one i was think about. next time instead of boiling the potatoes in the homemade chicken stock like i did the other night, i want to roast the potatoes and onions with some garlic in the oven and then mix them with the chicken stock and season with butter and rosemary and thyme. and then again garnish with cheddar cheese, caw caw creek bacon, and fresh peas (hopefully peas from my own garden - we'll get to the peas in a minute).

when i'm not making soup, i have been spending a few sunny hours in the garden. today i planted two types of spinach, more lettuce, a bit more swiss chard, asparagus peas, and basil, all from seeds. i also planted a few more peas seeds on the north side of the house along with some brussel sprouts and leek seeds. i know it is really late to plant peas, b sprouts, and leeks from seeds outside, but the seeds i tried to sow inside did not work, and what do i got to lose? so we'll have to wait and see how that goes. plus i don't have time to worry about them when i spend every waking hour worrying about the tomatoes. the tomato obsession is starting to become a bit unhealthy. so i have decided to relax about the tomatoes for awhile and try to remember that i can always get naturally grown local heirloom tomatoes at the saturday farmers market downtown. although they do cost an arm and a leg!!!

oh please, oh please, GROW TOMATOES GROW!!!!

come on tomatoes!!!!!!
you can do it!!!!!

look at those peas go!!!!!
man, i need to get some straw or newspaper and mulch these babies.

pretty pea flowers.

they are ready for their close up.

i got more lettuce sprouting and the other lettuce is ready to eat.
the swiss chard and the stray onion also doing well.
up at the top end of the garden are even more little bitty lettuce sprouts

thyme needs to be trimmed.

soon we'll have some lovely flowers in the flower field.
i can't remember what these flowers are called.

but i think they are multiplying.
look at the little baby shoots.

what a lovely garden ^^ I've always wanted to grow my own produce, but sadly I am stuck in my apartment for now :(

keep up the good work!
